Birth: Apr. 21, 1807, Sweden Death: unknown Isanti County Minnesota, USA Karin Christoffersdotter Norberg (1807-1885) was born April 21, 1807 in the village of Norrbäck, Hassela parish in Hälsingland, Sweden. Her family came from Hassela for generations and is said to have been very distant relatives of Arthur Hazelius, founder of Skansen. She was the second child of farmer Christoffer Eriksson Norberg and his wife, Helena Jönsdotter. Karin left home at the age of 15 to serve as a maid with different farmers in Hassela and the neighboring communities. In October of 1827, she went to Hedvigsfors Bruk (Works) in Bjuråker parish to serve as a maid with the squire of the Works. At the mansion, she was one of many maids, most of the same age, and was probably not as onerous as in other places Karin had been. While working in Bjuråker, she gave birth to a daughter on November 19, 1828. The daughter's name was Inga Greta Öhman. In 1833, she served at Olof Eriksson's farm in Korpåsen village, Hassela. There she had a second daughter, Catharina Eriksdotter, on April 15, 1834. Karin was married to widower Anders Jönsson Norin on March 21, 1840 at the age of 32. Anders had seven children with his first wife, Brita Persdotter, who died in 1835. Anders and Karin became husmansfolk in Bäckaräng and had three more children. Their son Anders Andersson Norin (born November 30, 1840) immigrated to America in 1866 with his newly wedded wife, Karin Johansdotter, and settled in Isanti County, Minnesota near the town of Blomford. On April 9, 1868 Karin and her husband, Anders Jönsson Norin, and their two daughters, Juliana (Julia) Andersdotter Oswell (born November 29, 1852) and Helena Lena Andersdotter (born February 9, 1850) immigrated to America. They also settled in Isanti County near the town of Blomford. In 1869, Karin's daughter Catharina Eriksdotter emigrated with her husband Olof Olofsson Bäckvall Selin and two sons and joined their Swedish relatives in Isanti County. Six years after immigrating to Isanti County, Catharina and Olof had a son, August Peter Selen. Karin's firstborn daughter, Inga Greta and Anders' children from his first marriage remained in Sweden. They never met again. Karin and Anders lived with their son Anders Andersson Norin and his family. Their son, Anders, changed his name to Andrew Norin. It is believed that Karin died in Isanti County in 1885 at the age of 78, although there is no death record for her with Isanti County. It was presumed that she was buried on the family farm, along with her husband, near the small town of Blomford where she lived with her son Andrew and his family. However, there is a good chance that both Karin and her husband, Anders, may have been buried in unmarked graves at the Big Meadow Cemetery, which is a small neighborhood cemetery about a half mile from where they lived.
